The Old English & Colonial Lurcher Club

INTRODUCING THE MEMBERS

Alan & Barbara Tyer

Alan Tyer has owned and bred Lurchers & longdogs for over thirty five years.   A founder member of the "Calendar Coursing Club" in the early eighties, Alan went on to form (with Geoff Ogden) the "Fens Coursing Club" and then the "Association of Lurcher Clubs".  He formed the "Old English & Colonial Lurcher Club" in 1997 for the benefit of a group of Lurcher coursing men that showed the desire to work their dogs only with the permission of the landowner and who wanted to show the  world that Lurcher work was the equal of any other Country Sport.  Always a keen coursing man, Alan is Chairman of  both the "Old English & Colonial Lurcher Club" and the "Association of Lurcher Clubs". He is Married to Barbara, who joins him in his interest,

Barbara being the Treasurer of the "Association of Lurcher clubs" and

secretary of the "Old English & Colonial Lurcher club".  Partners in life and partners on the coursing field.

Alan & Barbara  utilise the permission they have to promote and help other lurcher owners gain permission.  They do this by setting an example and

impressing on others that the only  way forward is for the lurcher owner to show the world that Lurcher coursing is the equal of any other Country Sport.

Alan is also involved in the political aspect of field sports.  He is a member of "the Standing Conference on Country Sports"  and as the Chairman of the

Association he is very active with the "Independent Supervisory Authority on Hunting".  Alan sees the Authority (I.S.A.H.) as the way forward for not only the coursing man but of all people who hunt with dogs.

The "Old English & Colonial Lurcher club" shows the way forward for  the Lurcher owner by it's example of good conduct and by the fact that all

members are also members of the "Countryside Alliance".
